The future of OpenWrt PDF Print E-mail

This is just to keep you all up to speed regarding what to expect from OpenWrt in the future.

The OpenWrt devs are currently working on two main trunks of the software. The current Version 1.0 (CodeNamed WhiteRussian) trunk, currently at RC4 with RC5 on its way and a Version 2.0 (CodeNamed: Kamikaze) that currently only lives it life in SubVersion.

The upcoming features currently announced in the Roadmap for OpenWrt looks like:

OpenWrt 1.0 (WhiteRussian) RC5 

    * support for BCM47xx/53xx based boards with Linux kernel 2.4
    * optional web-based administration interface (included by default)

OpenWrt 2.0 (Kamikaze)

    * support more devices:
          o AR7 based routers
          o Atheros AR531x/231x based routers
          o MikroTik RouterBoard 5xx
          o Netgear WGT634U (2.4/2.6)
          o x86 based boards (2.4/2.6):
                + MikroTik RouterBoard 230
                + OpenBrick
                + PCengines WRAP
                + Soekris net4801
    * use an opensource switch driver for ADMTEK Switch and ROBO Switch
    * swith to b44 ethernet driver by default for BCM47xx/53xx based routers
