I used to have a Netgear WGT634U, which got fried(lightning). They are unable to give me a new WGT634U, so I am getting a partial refund.

The only other good router I can find is the Linksys WRTSL54GS. I have had very bad experiences with ASUS, so please dont say ASUS. My main of the router use is to download torrents using ctorrent.

My main questions are

1) Are there any issues with this router??
2) Are there any other better choices available?
3) Which firmware will be best for this router?

Thanks a lot

There is no issues that I have heard of. But then again - I havent had any issues with ASUS, and it seems like you have :-)

If you dont want an ASUS, I'd say that Linksys model is a good choice.

I havent tried it, as I dont believe it is available here in Europe - at least I havent seen it here in Denmark.

I would use OpenWrt White Russian v. 0.9 with that router.

In time I am sure that the new OpenWrt Kamikaze branch is a better choice, but it is not yet stable enough for a production router - especially not on Broadcom based devices, due to the closed source nature of the Broadcom drivers (which works only on kernel 2.4.x, and Kamikaze is better on 2.6.x kernels).

Thanks a lot man.

My only problems with ASUS are that their warranty system is crap over here in India. I have had to take them to Consumer Court to get my graphic card replaced.

I guess I will get that Linksys Model, and load it up with White Russian.

Thanks again macsat.

Finally got my Router replaced after messing it up by applying 220V instead of 110V. Anyway installed X-WRT on it. Very easy to install, use and configure. Everything works without any configuration.

@macsat- you should update your ctorrent guide. I had to download uclibc++, libopenssl and libgcc from White Russian RC4 for it to work.

The above posted version of cTorrent, for some reason does not use swap space. I enabled 'swap' by getting the swap-utils package, then dd, mkswap and finally swapon.
My Free mem while running cTorrent is just 700 KBytes. But still Swap usage is <30 and my browsing goes really slow even if I set the download limit to zero.

I think I am going back to your version, macsat. Could you please check this out??
