Hi everyone.

I've just rebuilt the firmware with the 2.6.21 kernel.
I'm a little aprehencive to try it on my box, i started with the .config from the old 2.4 kernel, and then had to
Code:
make menuconfig
to make sure that all the new kernel stuff was defined in the config file.

What do you guys think? good idea or not?

You should be more than a little apprehensive. If it doesn't work, there's no way back to the old firmware unless you open up the device, solder up a bunch of wires, and work out how to program it via JTAG. And the binary-only wireless driver probably won't work anyway.

Thats what i was affraid of.

And thats why I asked.  Grin
However I'm just planning on making a wireless MP3 player with it so i dont really need the 2.6 kernel - just the right programs on the standard firmware.

Although i'll need to compile the 2.4 kernel to include USB audio support.

I dont really care for the standard web interface, but cant find where it is in the firmware to replace it - or delete it.
Any ideas?

Shall i create a new topic for this idea?

Sorry for the delay bytespider, hadn't seen this post.

You don't need to compile a new kernel for USB audio support. Just install Pagano's collection of kernel modules that you can find on the download page, and 'modprobe' or 'insmod' the ones you need.

This brings me to a interesting question i'd been meaning to ask. Does the device remember any changes you make to its internal files? I thought it didnt as it boots using a ram disk?
