Hi all,
first of all i'm a newbie regarding the subject, hope you can help me. I wonder if it is possible to install the twonky mediaserver on a SMCWAPS-G. If yes, what do i have to install/upgrade and where can find an installation guide for doing it ?

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

on my WAP0007 twonkymedia in version 4.2beta RC3 is working pretty well. Thanks to twonky support, who provided me with the twonky version "twonkymedia-i386-uclibc-0.9.28-locale.zip" (in fact the 4.2beta RC3).
The normal uclibc-version does not work, you need the "-locale" version.

There where some problems with single mp3s, but no trouble installing or configuring.
I'm using your image MGB100v1.zip, which really works good  Smiley

Kind regards and thanks for the great work with MGB100v1 (and probably the following upgrades)

Any chance you could let me have a copy of this version? Is it on their website anywhere?

Hi D,

please ask support of Twonky for "twonkymedia-i386-uclibc-0.9.28-locale.zip". They answer very fast, are very service oriented and send me a link for downloading.

It is not officially on their website, so I don't know if I'm allowed to send you the link.

If they can't help you, we'll find a way.

Kind regards

Hi,

I have also a SMCWAPS-G with a HDD inside. Furthermore, I have a D-Link DSM 320rd.
Now I want to play my media files from the SMCWAPS-G with the DSM 320rd.

First Step:
I wanted to use the build-in UPNP function from the original firmware. The 320rd found the smc and imported the playlist with all media files, but couldn't play these files, although I could choose them. It loaded and loaded, but nothing happend. I have read, that the smcwaps only have a upnp content directory service. So you can browse through the files. For playing files you need a upnp av server. There is a difference. Here is a good german text about upnp:
http://www.tjansen.de/blog/2006/01/die-upnp-av-architektur-teil-1.html

Second Step:
I upgrade the firmware described here: http://www.macsat.com/macsat/component/option,com_openwiki/Itemid,66/id,flashing_with_a_new_firmware_image/
Then installed "Firmware Upgrade V3" from the download section of this page.

SMC is still alive! Telnet works. (Useful hint: username is "root")

Third Step:
Copied the content from this "twonkymedia-i386-uclibc-0.9.28-locale.zip" into /usr/local/TwonkyVision

manually started with /usr/local/TwonkyVision/twonkymedia

Now my problem: TwonkyMedia seems to restart every 7 seconds. I can play mp3 files, but they stop for 3 seconds every 7 seconds.

Did you have the same problem? Did you configured something?

Furthermore:

How can add this into the startup sequence. Everytime I add this in rc.bridge or inittab, the changes will be deleted at startup.

How can I deactivate at startup unnecessary services like dhcpd or vsftpd to save resources?

EDIT: First Problem solved. The twonky server can't manage more than 1000 mp3 files. With less than 1000, it works properly.

Hi,

I'll try to answer some of your questions, but I'm still using Firmware Upgrade V1 - that's all I need at the moment.

My Twonkyserver handles definitly more than 1000 mp3. Try and check the logfile. I had two mp3s, that killed twonky, after removing the restart "problem" was solved.

My Twonkyserver is started via autoexec in /mnt/C, which at least in my Firmware, is executed at boot time.

Kind regards

thx for your help, it was really only an mp3 file.

I have choose under "Troubleshooting->Log level" only the option "Scan" and in the logfile was the error "[ERROR]HTTP:Cannot receive start of header" after every scan of this specific file.

I asked twonky support for the locale uclib libraries, but did not get any response. Any help on getting the libraries?

Just download "Linux x86 uclibc 0.9.28" from http://www.twonkyvision.de/Download/TwonkyMedia/TM4Technicians.html and extract it in /usr/local/TwonkyVision. Than run ./twonkymedia
Access TwonkyVision via your webbrowser http://Your.IP:9000/

Good luck!

This does not work.

I get an error message. Same as reported elsewhere on this forum. Is still think I need the "locale" version. Does it work in your case?

By the way: do I gave to install twonkymedia everytime again after a power reconnect yo the SMCWAPS-G?

I also have some problems playing media files with  e.g.  windows media player. Playing audio files via a web browser works perfectly. I think the problem in my case is the UPnP deamon. As soon as I get it running I’ll post it here. It can take a while because I’m also trying to get a NZB deamon like SABnzbd running.
