How to backup the router configuration?

Hello,
I spent recently quite some time to configure my router. As I had set it up suiting my needs I wanted to add the dot on the i enabling MAC filtering.
Well, short storry, something went wrong (misspelled the MAC or something else) and I locked myself out of the router. Unable to get an IP and being able connecting to it, I saw as only option to reset it to factory defaults, thus loosing all my nice settings and configurations.
Now just for the case this or something else happens again, is there a way to backup the complete router installation with all configuration, installed packages and settings?
I am not sure, if the Save Settings in the system Setup - Setting Management does the complete job, or saves just some specific settings accessible throught he web interface, ignoring all my little scripts and ipkg installations.
Ideally I think a copy of the Flash Memory would be perfect, as well as making a backup of the content of the memory stick I connected.
Any ideas, how this could work?
Thank you in advance

Hi, I had the same issue here (because I´d like to move from my usb stick to an CF Card) and I thought about this:
tar pcf /tmp/harddisk /opt
(which creates an TAR File on my CF Card and no matter what filesys the cf card uses the rights stay).
bye,
