Hi, Angry
I have tried to get rrdtool running on my test unit WL500GX with OpenWrt RC5.
Data collection works, I can dump data from the rrd-files, but the rrdtool graph commands hang indefinitely. I have rrdtool running on my two other routers with Oleg's distro, and I tried copying the rrd-file from the OpenWrt machine to the Oleg router, and then images are generated ok, so there is nothing wrong with the data collection, only with the graphing.
Could it be a configuration error? I believe i should get some error messages if any dependencies are missing?
Any ideas?
It seems from some threads here that some people succeeded?

Are you using the "Oleg Scripts" for graph generation?

I believe there is a few things that need to be changed.

I can take a look and see if I can find the scipts I once had working in OpenWrt

Yes, I'm using the script for the Oleg distro. But I have tried also (simplified) manual graphing commands as they are described in the man files.
Would be great if you could find your old scripts, though I don't think that the scripts are the present problem. It's just that any graphical commands cause rrdtool to hang without any error printouts. The same rrdtool commands on the copied rrd-file work fine on a router with oleg's distro.

Ok.

I will try to take a look at it. Maybe even install rrdtool on my own router to see if I can make it work.

I have analyzed it further:
It not only hangs when graphing, I also get a 'segmentation error' when trying
'rrdtool dump /opt/var/lib/eth1.rrd' after a few lines of output.
I have tried to install rrdtools from the unslung ipk repository.
I have also recompiled all required ipk's from the openwrt trunk, but using them gave even more disastrous results.

Hello Pjotrek :-)

I have the same problem on my old Netgear WGT634U, which is running OpenWGT in the meantime.
Collecting data works, but it hangs forever generating the graphs :-(
I have a wild mixture of packages for Olegs ASUS firmware and various packages for OpenWrt on it (OpenWGT is very bare bones :-(( ), and I thought it might be an incompatibility between some of them.
In my opinion, the scripts are OK, it's a problem with the binaries.

But anyway, OpenWGT is much more stable than the original Netgear firmware (with the exception of the wireless part, which I disabled entirely, because I don't need it there).

On my WL-500gx I have rrd statistics for traffic, CPU load & CPU usage generated on demand via CGI scripts. I had to switch to thttpd without php, because the CGI timeout  in the php version  of 30 secs is not enough to generate the graphs dynamically.
The difference is huge, before the conversion to CGI, the router had a nearly constant cpu usage of 60%, now it's below 5%.

Anybody interested?

greetings from Vienna
Martin

P.S. Is it true that ASUS discontinued the production of the WL-500gx? Maybe we should try to get some units before the are sold out everywhere?

Yes - I am intersted in seeing your cgi based solution :-)

I havent heard that ASUS should have discontinued WL500G-Deluxe, but you might be right...

In the meantime there's the WL-500g premium :-)

Ok, is there any progress with rrdtool on OpenWrt?

I found some old packages (version 1.0.49) that do work with OpenWgt on the WGT634U, and it's fast, compared to your version running on the WL-500gx. Graph generation is a matter of a few seconds compared to ~30sec. Drawback: Output is not as nice, as it's not antialiased. But you could use it with php-thttpd :-)
Try it with OpenWrt...
Maybe I will downgrade on my WL-500gx, for performance reasons, or to switch back to php-thttpd.

Descriptions and download at: http://openwrt.brainabuse.de/rrdcollect/readme.html

Macsat: You moved my CGI solution to the DD-WRT forum, actually it belongs to Olegs firmware...
Anyway, if I look at my server stats, there's not much interest in the download :-(

I just moved it to the correct location.

That might help the popularity that people actuately do see it :-)
