hi schufti

i got the cable (serial) but for some reason I dont get anything in the
screen (Im using hyperterminal and a MAX 3232E based cable. I tried
to upload a couple of pictures but for some reason the thread page 2 got
blocked (did I also brick the post?Huh)

I have also tried with a Siemens ME45 cable which according to openwrt
should work but no success...

any ideas?

thanks

Ok,

I'm trying to build a serial cable out of an ericsson T28 data cable. As I mentioned
it has a MAX 3232 Ic and should, as I understand work properly.

The problem is that I connect it to GND, Ser_TX and Ser_RX and to the proper (I
think!) pins in the cable (see below) and I get nothing!

T28 Pinout

I only get something in the Hyperterminal when playing around with the TX and RX,
some strange characters but I cannot type anything or get any prompt...

I set the hyperterminal to 115, 8, N, 1 as suggested in some threads... what am I doing
wrong?Huh

thanks and regards

hi kenvello

I'm pretty new here but I think you should read the following from the wiki

http://www.macsat.com/macsat/content/view/16/30/

the idea is to install the package in an alternative location /opt, that's the
reason for the "-d opt" in teh ipkg command

well,

I found and old Ericsson Txx data cable at home with a max3232
inside. I guess I just need to lok for the pinout and start playing
around....

an small question about the drawing in the wiki:

GND       X   o  TDI
Ser_Tx    o   o  TCK
Ser_DTR   o      o  Ser_Rx
TDO     o   o  TMS
+3V3     o   o  Ser_RI

when looking at the board, GND is the square one isn't it?

thanks

hi schufti

sorry but I don't really understand the following from the wiki

For the serial console it is best (and cheapest) to get a mobile phone data cable. Either you buy a serial cable, or some usb cables have a 3.3V usb serial converter built in. Google for the pinout. http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Customizing/Hardware/Serial_Console

Is it possible to use the usb cable as a serial interface? Shall I load a driver or something like that?Huh?

Regarding the connections, as I understand I should use the ser_tx and ser_rx for the
serial and TDI, TCK, TDO and TMS for the JTAG.... Am I right?

Many thanks
Oscar

hi schufti!

I think i will try with JTAG cable from ebay, according to the guy it is compatible with the
schema in the wiki. As I understand from your last post I can recover the box with JTAG
and red boot....

I will check for the serial cables in local mobile phone stores

thanks!

hi schufti

do i need both cables or just on is enough?Huh

regarding the nokia, it is just what the link in the wiki (from OpenWRT), what about these two for
the serial?

http://cgi.ebay.es/2pcs-FT232RL-USB-UART-IC-FTDI-SSOP28_W0QQitemZ170193675779QQihZ007QQcategoryZ4663QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122

the first one looks pretty much the same as in the suggested link from OpenWrt

http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Customizing/Hardware/Serial_Console

sorry for these may questions but I would like to make sure I'm buying the correct parts...

many thanks once more!

Just one more thing

as a desperate solution I have removed the battery to see if the box reacts in some way....

thanks again

Hi schufti!

thanks a lot for your answer!

well I'm afraid I would need some help on this... First of all when I connect the
power all the leds but three (LED2, LED3 and LED4) are continuously lit, and
LED2 blinks if I  connect the ethernet cable.

Regarding your question I have nothing at all apart from the bricked box. From
the wiki I can see the cable neede is either a Xilinx JATG cable (for JTAG) or a
data cable for Nokia 6210 (for example) for the serial console.

I have been searching for both cables in ebay and this is what I find for the Xilinx:

http://cgi.ebay.es/Xilinx-XC95108-CPLD-Board-JTAG-Programmer-Cable-XC9500_W0QQitemZ230222541836QQihZ013QQcategoryZ50913QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122

or

http://cgi.ebay.es/JTAG-Programmer-Xilinx-Parallel-Cable-III-Compatible_W0QQitemZ140206582553QQihZ004QQcategoryZ129010QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122

and this is what I find for the data cable (are the USB data cables ok?)

http://cgi.ebay.es/ORIGINAL-MQ-DLR-3-DATENKABEL-USB-fuer-NOKIA-6210-6250_W0QQitemZ110224854996QQihZ001QQcategoryZ30427QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122

is this what I need??? as I understand from the wiki I will then need to solder the
cables to the connector at the bottom of the pcb just behind the HD connector...

am I right?

thanks so much

Hi there

I think I did spoilt my box. I was trying to upgrade the FW to the one from
Airlive and something went wrong. I tried the flash recovery in the wiki
"Recovery from bad flash" but no help. All the green leds on the right keep lit
and nothing happens... Any other thing to try apart from the JTAG issue???

Thanks a lot!

Hi Dave!!!

I finally made the wl0 working, the problem was in the line:

cp /etc/RT2500STA.dat /tmp/

I was copying the AP file instead of the STA, I will try to go through the options
later on....

Now struggling with the ctorrent client and the samba server....

I'll have a look to the proposed thread as well, the torrent client might work better
than the ctorrent (if I ever make it work!!!!)

Thanks once more!!!  Grin

Hi Dave!!!!!

Thanks a lot for such a fast answer!

I tried the suggestions in your reply bit no success. The Wireless led does not even blink. However
The ifconfig now gives information about the wl0 interface and it is having the correct MAC
address. On the other hand iwconfig also shows my ESSID but it is not able to connect properly
so I will go through the options in the xxxsta.dat config file since I may need to change something
else.

Regarding the ipkg issue, it is working now, THANXXXXX

I would like to ask you about the mentioned ""MGB100S4c3_080110 firmware and the uBTgui.img
"front end" "", is it better than the "standard" one??? The Webif interface is not working very
well for me so I wonder if the one you are using looks better.....

Thanks a lot once more and have a nice weekend!

Hi guys

I'm a newbie here whic managed to install the V4 autobootfs in my concpetronic from
here:

http://www.macsat.com/macsat/component/option,com_docman/task,cat_view/gid,22/dir,DESC/order,name/limit,5/limitstart,5/

and make it connect to my home network with the eth1 interface however I would like it
to connect to the lan via wireless. I have been searching for RT2500sta.dat examples
diong this but no success, could anyone help???

Another different issue is that when trying to update the ipkg packages they look like
no longer exist, is there any new web place which I can use for that??

These are the non working plages:

http://openwrt.org/downloads/snapshots/x86-2.6/packages
http://xwrt.kicks-ass.org/xwrt/kamikaze/x86-2.6/packages
http://downloads.openwrt.org/people/nico/testing/x86/packages

Many thanks in advance!
