Title: MGB100_v4c3_080312
Post by: schufti on March 12, 2008, 17:30:11 PM
Hi,
there is a new release of the c3 series FW in my MGB100 repository (http://rapidshare.com/users/FD664V) pw: mgb100.

Some fixes (ftp, device status, auto swappartition) and new versions (samba, bt-client)

it still supports autobootfs etc.

you should repartition your hd via GUI to take advantage of the swap space (it will automagically be created and activated). Alternatively you can create a swappartition on your own (on your PC, with appropriate tools) as 4. partition on the hd.

as with the newyears release, you will have to upgrade your GUI to the c3 Version (at the moment only av. from Ovis) via recovery loader (uc3gui.zip). If you stil are running with fw<c1, the settings will be reset to defaults.

Do not use a S series upgrade file after upgrading to C series!
due to incompatible settings format, the device will hang and not respond via GUI, only recoverable via recloader. if you don't like the fw and want to downgrade, you have to flash a old (~400b7) full fw version and reboot twice before again upgrading to a S series release.

Dear Schufti,
your new c3 release - MGB100_v4c3_080312, it simply rocks!!! Thank you again!

Now, on my opinion, the only miss is a customizable GUI. Do you think is there any possibility other than hex, to edit the uc3gui.bin?
Or may be better to have an other httpd running? Imagine how great will be... to access some services (ftp or btcli) over-the-NAT with customized cgi and without accessing the core interface...

Hi xitix,

feel free to reverse engineer the gui filesystem. The existing gui uses the overlib (which is GPL and therefor the GUI should be GPL, too  -  but argue with AMIT) and a lot of functionality is coded directly into the amit_httpd.

Alternatively you can compile and run any httpd from hd and code your own gui... for me the box now serves its purpose and therefore my motivation is declining  ;). If I see someone following my steps and showing a concept for a new GUI I will be pleased to help integrating it in my FW.

so what is the difference using this firmware comparing to original c3 from ovislink?:>
is ftp and printserver working correctly?
and excuse me for my ignorance but what is autobootfs? because i see that the newest revision of the firmware "MGB100_v4c3sq_080331.zip" is without it...
which one is better for flashing my original c3? which will work with all futures and enebles me the printserver?:)

just use your c3 until you start seeing missing bits and pieces ....

hmmm, depends on what you are expecting. For me it is working.

try to use boardsearch with "autobootfs"...

newer versions of div. packages?
nfs server?
cifs-client?
telnet access?
startup-scripts?
working printserver?
auto swap?

Hi I have a MGB100 with the original firmware on it  Ver R4.00a9

can I just flash this MGB100_v4c3_080312 firmware onto it via the browser config page , advanced tools ,firmware upgrade ?

I have been reading the wiki and am a little confused. Some mentions of using a hex editor to modify the blockheader - is this still nessecary ?

please feel free to point me in the direction of any tutorials that you think I should be reading  :-)

thanks

Hi baldrickturnip,

in your case as it is original MGB100 brand - you can first load the "new years" fw that brings the new GUI and then load the  recent upgrade file. Anyway, your settings will be lost and you should partition your hd with new system to gain full advantage.

With MGB100 fw<= 4b7, if you load newer fw without new GUI you will loose GUI access (pw problem)!

Thanks schufti

what is the "new years" firmware ?

does the HD need to be partitioned before I flash - 120gig with nothing important on it?

thanks

do you mean the drive needs to have more than one partition ? swap ? or just partition the whole drive with ext2 ?

Hi,

If you are going to use fw from flash, you should do the partitioning with the fw. It automatically sets up the swap partition (so you are limited to 3 partitions).

even if you are planning to use some autobootfs in future, you can keep all the partitions (even swap), only there are some unclear cases when the fw will not use swap created with external tools.
