Title: Last & Latest upgrade.img for old GUI (w/o download manager)
Post by: schufti on January 03, 2008, 23:03:11 PM
Hi everyone!

I made a last MGB100_400S07.upg (http://rapidshare.com/files/83482533/MGB100_400S07.upg) for the old GUI (the one w/o download manager, up to r400c1). All errors known (to me) are fixed (incl. kernel-nfs blocksize to max 32k).
components: Samba 3.0.14a, BusyBox 1.10.0, kernel 2.4.36 (attention autobootfs user!!!), for telnet use a BT (btcli) is included.

schufti

Edit: ok, this is definitely the last update. I fixed the printerserver, the e2fschk/GUI and the autobootfs on odd USB-stick errors. The printerserve seems to work at least for my Canon and HP ink and laserjets. It wouldn't work for my HP scanner-printer :(
ahh, and when you hold "Backup" during boot, autoinit and autoboots will be skipped (not autoexec)

Hi,

ok, I verified today, that the new images with BT (see thread "pearl new years image") can be used on the old GUI, too.
So this definitely will be the last version of the 400S0x series!

But generally, the settings will be reset to defaults as AMIT changed the internal structure.

Is the btcli included with this release a part of what comes with btpd? Do you know where I can find more information about the where-abouts of the btcli included?

Hi,

the btcli is a amit specific cook-up of the commandline of the Transmission BTclient.

Thanks. That gives me a starting point.

As btcli gives us an option to execute a script at the end of a download, I would like to use it to send an email using SMTP. I then realize that telnet is not provided in this version of busybox (though previous versions had it). Are there other ways to get this done or is there a way I could get hold of a telnet client executable ?

Hi Schufti,
First of all, thank you for MGB100_400S07.upg
It works better with The WMU-6000FS from www.airlive.com, than with the original firmware !
First, I have upgraded my box with Version Number:R4.00c3 11/14, then installed MGB100_400S07.upg

The mini-lpd is excelent, work great in windows XP and Suse 10.3 with Xerox Phaser 3117 Printer.

Anyway, setting the Xerox Phaser 3117 Printer in Suse 10.3 have to be done "by hand"...
editing the printers.conf like this:
# Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.2.12
# Written by cupsd on 2008-02-05 00:36
# Replace 192.168.xxx.xxx with your wireless file server IP address
<DefaultPrinter lpusb0>
Info Samsung ML-1710, 1.0
Location 192.168.xxx.xxx
DeviceURI lpd://192.168.xxx.xxx/lpusb0
State Idle
StateTime 1202163805
Accepting Yes
Shared No
JobSheets none none
QuotaPeriod 0
PageLimit 0
KLimit 0
OpPolicy default
ErrorPolicy stop-printer
</Printer>

The status frame " http://192.168.xxx.xxx:2005/more.htm?&RC=@&ZT=1203168704235" should indicate this:
Printer Model Name:Xerox Corporation Xerox Phaser 3117(Full speed)
Printer Queue Name:lpusb0
Status:Ready

I have few comments:

1) The management of the local DISK is not working correct! I have solved the disk partitioning by formatting my disk on my desktop linux...
And the status frame " http://192.168.xxx.xxx:2005/more.htm?&RC=@&ZT=1203168704235" doesn't indicate correct the Partitions !? ???
DISK   Status:OK  Model Name:CF 16GB
Partitions   Free(MB)   Used(MB)   Total(MB)   File system

2) The FTP is not working, I have only SAMBA and Telnet.  Any sugestion?  >:(

3) The btcli (Transmission BTclient) is not very reliable.. The Pause and Resume is not responding as it was designed... many times stop or start more than one job, even only one is selected. ???
3.1) The webpage design is really bad... and even wrong spelled "Downlaod Assistant Status" !?
(http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/3499/capture1av6.th.gif) (http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=capture1av6.gif)
3.2) When dealing with more torrent jobs from private trakers, I have to edit manually the Listen Port number from the Bittorrent Client Configuration, otherwise got the "invalid port"

Schufti,
It is possibly to mount the webserver partition and edit some pages?
How is posible to improve the User interface?
It is possible to install other linux software, like.. Enhanced CTorrent and other stuff??

I am not an expert in linux, nore programming but I am shure that this box can do far better.
I will appreciate any answer.

Thank you.

Hi xitix,

you either should use
one of the old GUIs together with the s07 FW
or
the c03 with the Downloadassistant GUI

using the Downloadassistant GUI with s07 Fw will give unpredictable missfunction.

And yes, the btcli is very unstable, especially with large multipart torrents.
The partitioning should work if GUI/fw fits. In the C03 fw the device status page is broken, I know but don't know why...
Another bug is the e2fsck which segfaults on larger disks unless you activate swapping via console.... this could improve with new generation fw (lzma-squasfs root -> more free mem)

The GUI partiton is still undiscovered land. I think noone want's to 'improve' on this S***. For some with my fw the needs are fullfilled (dbox streaming) others still demand much more ans are longing for totally new fw....

I could correct some typos in the GUI if I'd really care ... which I don't.

Thanks for the tips with the lp deamon. Maybe you want to update the wiki?

Hello Schufti,
Thank you for the answer!
The bad is that I didn't found a valid link to the c03 image. Please, can re-upload it on rapidshare?
The FTP from MGB100_400S07.upg doesn't work with my ovislink WMU-6000FS box, even in command line.
It will be great to have a section with all binary versions, together.

@xitix:  hmm, vsftpd complains about options at startup....
to get it working, you have to remove following entries from vsftpd.conf, something like
enable_iconv   remote_charset  local_charset
I will see if I find a way to resolve this in a new fw version. I think it will be same in c03 fw. The c03 link is in the "pearl new years image" thread.

@ernst: sorry, didn't have time on saturday and saw that you solved the problem yourself on sunday :)
with the original toolchains you will have to set a bunch of shellvariables to ensure that the relevant binaries, includes and libs are used to get proper compilation.

schufti

Edit: ftp is working in s07! only in c03 the above mentioned error stops ftp!

@schufti,

Yes, I managed to get smartctl working (even a later version 5.18, everything later than tat is c++ which doesn't compile, or the ./configure doesn't work).

Could you do me a favor and explain about these shell settings? Or point me to a post where this perhaps has already been explained? Thanks!

@schufti

Hello again,
thank you for the c03, but unfortunately the FTP doesn't work even after I  modified the vsftpd.conf

I have removed these lines:
enable_iconv=YES
remote_charset...
local_charset...
but with FTP, still not any success :(

Any othe sugestion?
When typing the "amit_tftpd" command, I got the unvariable "bind error" response.

Than you.

Hi Schufti,
thank you for the FTP trick ! ;) Now I can study the "busybox inside" in midnight commander...
Anyway, after restarting the box, the vsftpd.conf apear in the old form, including the "enable_iconv=YES", "local_charset=UTF-8" and "remote_charset=UTF-8" lines.
Replacing the vsftpd.conf can be done forever, or I have to edit the vsftpd.conf from /etc and /var/config + restart the vsftpd any time I reset the box?

ok, other oservations:
1) With c03FW + download-manager GUI, the errors when resume the one torrent track are gone.
2) Still, the inconvenient with change manually the BT.BCP.value (port number) from ./btc.htm before resume each torrent from private servers (with proxy), otherwise got the "invalid port number". Is there any possibility to store somehow the BT.BCP.value for each torrent track?
3) After restarting the vsftpd, the ftp log is reported corectly!
4) I confirm that disk status is reported incorrcetly in ./more.htm

Thank you again!

Hi,

I have a SMC version of this box which was running the latest WMU-6000FS firmware from airlive.

I was having a few problems with it so decided to try your firmware (MGB100_400S07.upg)

I upgraded and was told the upgrade was successful however after reboot the device seems to have stopped working.  The power light is on and the ethernet light comes on when the cable is plugged in but apart from that not a lot is happening.  The buttons don't seem to be functioning and I can't access the web interface.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Sam

Hi,

as you could have read here (http://www.macsat.com/macsat/component/option,com_openwiki/Itemid,66/id,downgrading_fw/), that is perfectly normal if you do things that are not expected (= downgrade fw).

the title says it all: for old GUI (w/o download manager) so, definitely not for latest WMU-6000FS (V400c3)

Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the simple questions but this is fairly new to me.

Where do I find an original firmware .bin file?  I have tried the firmware files on the airlive site but they all seem to be upgrades and do not work.  I have searched for R400b7.BIN  but cannot find it on the net - the only links do not work.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you very much

as I don't know what you did with your box, I cant say what fw you really need.
you are saying that you have a SMC box, but you were working with tha latest airlive fw!
what didi you do to get that working? Did you use the "opening" fw, did you rebrand with my "rebranding" files or ....?

No fw on the airlive website is an upgrade file, they are all full fw.

but if it is still SMC "inside" (what I doubt) then you'll need SMC fw!

btw, did you manage to start recovery loader?

Hi,

The box was bought off ebay as an SMC WAPS-G flashed with airlive firmware.I upgraded to the latest airlive firmware but had problems connecting as wireless client mode so thought I'd try another firmware - which I did without really knowing what I was doing and messed up the machine.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SMC-WAPS-G-2-5-HD-box-wifi-NAS-Network-Storage-FTP_W0QQitemZ220295993490QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item220295993490&_trkparms=72%3A1301|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I have followed the instructions on the Wiki: http://www.macsat.com/macsat/component/option,com_openwiki/Itemid,66/id,recovery_from_bad_flash/   and I can put the box into recovery mode and copy .bin files across as described however the files that I have been using only take 7 secs to copy whereas the instructions say they should take longer... after they have been copied there is no difference to the machine.

I hope that is clear enough.

Thanks for your time

Sam

hi stharvey,

now it is starting to make sense...

Best thing for you to do isget the "rebranding" package from the wiki/repository. Then flash your box with the file "ovislink.bin" via recovery loader. Right after this (without reboot) flash the v400b6 fw from the airlive page. Then you should reboot and reset to factory settings. After this you can decide to work with old GUI and S8 (GPL-) upgrade file or flash to latest original c3 airlive fw with new GUI (download agent) and then "upgrade" with my c4 (GPL-)upgrade file.

N.B.: "uprade" files don't come with GUI, so one has to use orig fw files to successfully upgrade between all orig fw versions. (GPL-)upgrade files are allways valid for same base orig. fw version only.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem that the wireless client mode is not working for my smcwaps-g. I've followed the steps to flash the ovislink.bin, then the orig fw from airlive, then upgrade to the c3 fw. But I couldn't find the c4 gpl upgrade file. Where could I find it? Sorry I'm a newbie and may be asking stupid questions.

Thanks!

thanks schufti

unfortunately after following the steps, ie rebranding with ovislink.bin, orig fw from airlive, then upgrade to c3 fw from airlive, and finally the c3 fw from 080926, I still couldn't figure the client mode to work out. Did I do anything stupid? The encryption for the wireless lan is WPA-TKIP plus WPA2-AES.

Hi,

the WLAN client on MGB100 gets confused in WPA2 enabled nets.
Disable WPA2 and it will work. Unfortunately this is the only solution that I found...
