This hasn't been tested on all platforms, but definitely seems to work on most

Thanks to Pagano for this.

1. Download (and unzip into a root directory like C:\> ) appropriate firmware binary file .BIN from the homepage of the reseller of your box. (If you used one of the "unlock" files, you may encounter problems, since the box possibly was rebranded without your knowledge and refuses it's original FW. See section dangerous_stuff for rebranding.)
2. Use direct connection between PC and NAS. DHCP is ok for PC (if you are paranoid, set the IP of your PC in the 192.168.123.xxx sub range, 192.168.123.50 would be a valid choice).
3. go to DOS command prompt in W2K / WINXP (Start/run/cmd <OK>)
4. type the following into the command prompt (do NOT press enter yet): TFTP -i 192.168.123.254 PUT c:\filename.BIN (according to the used directory/filename)
5. Put the HD-WLAN into crash recovery mode
   1. power off - (disconnect powersupply)
   2. Press the two buttons at once and holding buttons
   3. power on - (reconnect powersupply).
6. Once the M1 and M2 lights are blinking 8 times per second continuously, press enter to execute the TFTP command above
7. if transfertime is < 10sec, you have wrong binary. Successful transfer gives slow blinking LEDs and takes about 50sec.
8. Once the file transfer is successfully completed, unplug the HD-WLAN for 10 seconds and plug it back in.

Note: Works with original firmware only, no "upgrade files". (example: R400b7.BIN)

(In Vista, both tftp and the telnet command are not installed by default, you have to add them. As a user the easiest way is via the Programs and Features applet in Control Panel using the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" link on the left pane.(
