A couple of days ago the OpenWrt developers released WhiteRussian RC6 which will be the last WhiteRussian release. If it is working as expected it will be renamed OpenWrt 0.9 and no more WhiteRussian.

Instesad the devs will focus on the next generation of OpenWrt codenames Kamikaze.

The ReadMe file for the RC6 release can be found here: 00-README

The xmail tutorial is (ad you can see) a bit delayed. It will be done soon. I will also change the Installing OpenWrt Tutorial, as there is a few changes  (old tutorial will still give you a working system, some stuff is just not needed anymore :-) ).

Still here...and new stuff in the pipeline

Just wanted to assure everyone that I am stull around :-)

New tutorial is in the pipeline as well.
Thanks to tgabi and VeNoM from the OpenWrt forums, we now have a working mail server solution for OpenWrt. tgabi managed to compile a working version of XMail pop3/smtp server, and VeNoM created working startup scripts for it.

This means that with an OpenWrt router with external storage (MMC/SD card, USB Storage or a SAMBA/NFS share) can now act as a complete server for your own domains, with web server with full PHP 5 support, ftp server and now mail server as well.

Stay tuned, the tutorial is expected to be ready within the next week.

I have recieved quite a few requests about a tutorial on setting up the Asterisk opensource PBX. I'd be happy to do so, but as I dont have a Sip Phone / Sip Adaptor I really cant do it. Since I dont really need it myselves I'm quite reluctant to buying one myselves. Feel free to donate an Sip adaptor to me though (or money for one using paypal), and I'll create the tutorial as soon as I have the hardware needed.

For thoose who shouldnt know.Asterisk provides a lot of features for ip-based phones (sip, H.323, MGCP and SCCP protocols) comparable with professionel switchboards. Amongst the features are Voicemail, Caller ID, SMS Messaging, Music on Hold, Music on Transfer (to other number), Distinctive ring, Call Recording, Conference Calls, Call Parking, Forward on busy and a LOT more. For the full feature list check out the official feature list.

The long awaited ASUS WL-700gE has appeared on the Official ASUS Web Page. Also released is a page about an upcoming ASUS WL-500g Premium.

The ASUS WL-700gE has been reported for sale in South East Asia for some time now, but with the appearence on the official web page, there might be hope for a soon-to-come European and US release as well.

For thoose who might not know, the ASUS WL-700gE is a linux based router with build-on 160GB 3.5" IDE harddrive, that can be used for a networked drive (or NAS) - and the firmware even includes a "Download Master" which can download files from web, ftp and even Bittorrent.

The WL-500g Premium seems to be a lower-range equivalent to the WL-700gE, without the featured harddrive, but with the possibility to add an external USB2.0 Storage device to obtain the same features as its Big Brother.

The WL-700gE is a Broadcom based platform running Linux, leaving hopes for future support of the device in OpenWrt. In order to get full OpenWrt support for the device, the OpenWrt developers need a specimen of the router for creating the binary image fitting the hardware. Check out the OpenWrt Donations page, if you would like to contribute. You can also feel free to donate some euros to the webmaster of this page using the donation button on the right hand side of the screen, so that I can start developing tutorials based on this new exiting hardware.

A few days ago Linksys released information telling that the WRT300N will soon be available to the end-user.

There are several interesting aspects in this product from an end-user perspective. First of all it allows transfer-rates of up to 540 Mbit/sec over a wireless interface (Theoretical value!). Secondly it should offer better coverage than the older 802.11b and 802.11g standards.

The  most important detail about this specific product from the point of view of this web site, is that is is broadcom based and running Linux as operating system.

This means that it should be possible to add support for this device in the current OpenWrt version.

If you are eager to see OpenWrt support for the device, please contact Kaloz over at openwrt.org - he would gladly accept donations in form of a WRT300N he can perform a Dissection in order to add support as soon as possible :-)
